Financial Controller

The role of the finance controller is to oversee and manage the financial operations of an organisation. They are responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, implementing effective financial controls, and providing strategic financial guidance to support a company's growth and profitability.

Typical Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and analyse financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
    • Monitor and interpret financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights to senior management
    • Prepare regular financial reports, budgets, and forecasts to assist in decision-making processes.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    • Develop and manage the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to ensure alignment with strategic goals
    • Provide financial projections and forecasts based on market trends, operational plans, and financial models
    • Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets and provide variance analysis to aid in decision-making.
  3. Financial Controls and Compliance:
    • Establish and maintain strong financial controls, ensuring adherence to accounting principles, policies, and procedures
    • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks
    • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, laws, and reporting requirements.
  4. Cash Flow Management:
    • Manage cash flow and working capital, including forecasting cash needs and optimizing cash utilisation
    • Monitor accounts receivable and payable, coordinating with other departments to minimise payment delays and collection issues
    • Assess and manage foreign currency exchange risks, if applicable.
  5. Financial Strategy and Business Partnership:
    • Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and growth initiatives
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as sales, marketing, and operations, to drive financial performance and optimize resource allocation
    • Support fundraising activities, including financial modeling, due diligence, and investor presentations, if required.
  6. Team Leadership and Development
    • Manage and develop a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance feedback.
    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the finance department.

 

Typical Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA qualification is a plus).
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Experience in managing cash flow, working capital, and financial risk.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and tools.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
